Chadli has a go from 20 yards with an instinctive strike that's curling away from Forster, but the big goalkeeper helps it on its way over the bar with an important save.
Tadić denied!
Redmond's cross-field ball is flicked on by Long to find Tadić in acres of space, but Foster races from his line to cut down the angle and make a crucial save. Saints' best chance of the second half.
Two wingers for Saints
It now looks like an orthodox 4-4-2 formation for Mauricio Pellegrino's men, with Tadić on the right and Redmond on the left. Davis and Lemina are the central pair.

This is better from Saints, as a nice move culminates in a half-chance for Gabbiadini, but his shot from the edge of the box is tame and easily saved.

Chadli trips Tadić as the Serbian looks to counter-attack and goes into the book for his troubles.

After a dominant first half from Saints, West Brom's change in formation has seen the visitors grow into this game. They're now the team in the ascendancy.

Krychowiak lifts the ball over the top of the Saints defence and Rodriguez runs on to it with only Forster to beat, but he snatches at the chance and sends his shot well wide of the far post.

The two wing-backs combine, as Nyom produces a really deep cross from the right that Gibbs can only head into the grasp of the stooping Forster.

This time the Italian finds a yard of space on the edge of the box and sees his shot deflect behind for a corner, before Long's low strike is well held by Foster.

The ball is laid back for Cédric to cross first time. It's met by Gabbiadini, who jumps superbly but cannot hit the target as his header floats just over the top.

Maya Yoshida's audacious overhead kick sails just wide. It's still goalless at St Mary's, but Saints have been well on top.

Saints have had more than their fair share of corners, and are getting closer and closer from each of them. First Maya Yoshida's downward header is pushed aside by Ben Foster, before the Japanese defender is fractionally off target with an eye-catching overhead kick.
Nyom fires over
West Brom break quickly from a Saints corner, but Allan Nyom ignores Kieran Gibbs on the overlap and shoots wildly over from 25 yards.

Evans goes down injured and cannot continue, so on comes right-back Nyom as Craig Dawson moves inside to play in the centre of defence.

Saints well on top
The hosts are having no trouble creating opportunities, but still can't make the breakthrough. Jonny Evans is receiving treatment as Albion set about halting the flow of Saints pressure.

Saints break at a rate of knots as Manolo Gabbiadini races away down the left touchline and his low cross looks destined to be converted by Shane Long, only for the former West Brom man to steer the chance wide from six yards.

Nacer Chadli scored direct from a free kick against Leicester on Monday night, but the Saints wall stands tall to deny the Belgian a repeat performance.
Van Dijk has a go
Virgil van Dijk strides out of defence and chances his arm from fully 35 yards with a rising drive that just veers a couple of yards off target.
Soooo close from Romeu!
Saints are getting closer, as this time van Dijk helps on a corner from the left and Romeu finds himself in the middle of the six-yard box with his back to goal, but his shot on the turn bounces agonisingly wide.

Ryan Bertrand gets in behind the West Brom defence and cuts the ball back for Dušan Tadić, who shoots firmly but straight into the hands of Ben Foster.

Ben Foster takes a goal kick that only just clears the halfway line, such is the strength of the wind, which is at Southampton's backs in this first half.

Ryan Bertrand steps up and strikes a delicious 25-yard free kick that takes a slight deflection off Jonny Evans and cannons against the angle of post and bar. So close!
