Saints patiently pass the ball around and Danny Ings quickly frees up space to shoot but it's blocked. Probably best opening of the half as we look for that chance...

Saints have got into two good positions but the final balls have been cleared by Everton which is the story of the half. Neither side able to create that clear opening.

It's been a much less action packed half at Goodison Park but if Saints can just create a chance or two, who knows. Both sides cancelling the other out currently in midfield.

Sidibe works the ball out to Digne as Saints are stretched but Walker-Peters gets across to block it away for a corner. The corner comes in and goes out safely for a goal-kick.
TIGHT SECOND-HALF
It's been a much tighter affair at Goodison Park in this second-half with Everton playing much better. Saints not getting the same openings they were in the opening half hour or so of the first-half.
Free-kick to Everton
Jan Bednarek is adjudged to have fouled Richarlison whilst through on goal. VAR being asked to check for a red card but not given.
Free-kick is safely blocked before half-time substitute Sidibe gets a shot away but is saved by McCarthy.
Lucky escape...
Calvert-Lewin is free on the end of a long ball over the top but can't control it first time to save Saints.
GOALMOUTH SCRAMBLE!
Corner in, the ball sticks to Danny Ings as about 5 Everton defenders follow him in the area but he can't get space but is eventually cleared. Ward-Prowse wins another corner but this time it's cleared safely.

And it's in Ward-Prowse territory but it hits the wall and goes out for a corner.

It's harsh on Saints but Everton have scored just before half-time. Richarlison gets on the end of a through ball and his first touch sets him up perfectly to hit past McCarthy. 1-1.

The drinks break comes and Everton will be the happier of the two teams for it. Saints are looking to get on the front foot and control possession. Armstrong has had a goal disallowed for offside and McCarthy pulled off a good stop from Iwobi.

Lucas Digne gets a cross away and it falls to Alex Iwobi who looks likely to score but Alex McCarthy continues on from his performance on Sunday to push it away!

Danny Ings takes the ball down brilliantly inside the area, holds it up and lays it off to Ward-Prowse but his shot is blocked. Saints with a good passage of play here...
