The visitors take all three points, really tough on Saints. There were chances in both halves to get back into the game, but Jürgen Klopp's side were that bit more clinical on the day.
Djenepo wins a free-kick
The second time he's been upended by Mané. Prowsey over the delivery. He swings it into the danger area, into a crowd of bodies but no one in red and white can connect. Hard to see how Saints are still behind!

Ings latches onto a fantastic cross from the right from Yan Valery, who fizzed the ball low and hard. Ings connects, but not with enough power, and it flies wide. Golden chance for the hosts.

Joel Matip flicks at the midfielder's effort, as it fizzes past him, nearly diverting it goalward. But it flies just wide of Angus Gunn's post. Mo Salah then finds some space, but Gunn is equal to his low shot, saving with his legs.

The defender covers the ground fantastically, as Salah slips in Firmino and he slides across to intercept before the forward could get his shot away. Great bit of defending from the Pole.

Foul given away by Romeu, 20-yards from goal. Both TAA and Salah were over it, but the Egyptian could only find the wall. Saints stand tall.
We're ready for the second 45
Prowsey gets us back under way at St Mary's. Saints trail, but only narrowly, and there's plenty of encouraging signs to take into this half! No changes to either side at the break.

Well, Saints have dominated large portions of that first 45 minutes but find themselves a goal down to a special strike from former player Sadio Mané.
Mané opens the scoring
He was on the scoresheet for Liverpool midweek against Chelsea and he's found the net again. The ball is rolled to him by Milner on the edge of the area, and he bends a shot around Angus Gunn with plenty of pace and precision. The visitors lead.

Ox whips a cross in from the right, which is well met by the Saints defender. It goes for a throw on the other side, taken quickly by Robertson, who finds the feet of Mané via James Milner...
Another Adams chance
The striker gets in behind again, found well by Prowsey. He goes to square the ball to Redders, who was better placed for the shot, but Matip steps in. Saints are doing a good job of unsettling Liverpool, and creating when they have the ball.
Adams looking most likely...
The No.10 is causing problems for Matip and and van Dijk at the back. His latest effort flies marginally over the bar as he connects with a Romeu cross. Keep pushing, lads! 👊

The midfielder wins the ball in a challenge with Andy Robertson, but the follow through catches him.

Redderz in the first half at St Mary's. Saints have enjoyed plenty of possession, and chances, but we're still goalless 10 minutes before the interval.
Wild from Salah
The forward nips in behind Maya Yoshida, but takes the shot on early, off balance, and rather lashes at it. It's skewed into the stands and Saints can breathe again.
van Dijk challenges Gunn
Cross gets delivered into the Saints area and is well fielded by Angus Gunn, who has had very little to do thus far, and was under a lot of pressure from van Dijk.

Bertrand releases Nathan Redmond down the left, who returns the favour. The full-back pulls the ball back centrally, where Yan Valery has made a run. James Milner sticks a leg out clumsily, which Valery stumbled over, before releasing a tame shot.

Alexander-Arnold flashes a ball across the face of goal, with Firmino lurking. The whip had Jan Bednarek beaten, but there's too much pace for the Liverpool striker to connect.

Prowsey's corner meets Maya Yoshida's head, on the 6-yard line. The defender rises superbly, and connects well, but Adrian pulls of an instinctive save. Saints are pressurising here!

Redders forces a corner
He's released by Oriol Romeu, and gathers the ball well in his stride. Sprinting down the left, he's chased by Oxlade-Chamberlain and wins a corner. Whipped in by Prowsey, met by Adams, and diverted wide by Yoshida. Good chance for Saints.
Prowsey clashes with Milner
The Liverpool players comes off worse, heading the back of Ward-Prowse's head in an aerial duel. There's a cut above Milner's eye which will need attending to. He leaves the pitch.
Ox shoots
Mo Salah links with Oxlade-Chamberlain down the right. A neat back flick from the Egyptian finds the midfielder on the edge of the area, but he drags his shot. No danger there.
Adams goes close
The striker gets his first glimpse of goal. Adrian is off his line quickly to close, but the Saints No.10 will be keen to get off the mark in front of the St Mary's faithful here today. One to watch!

Yan Valery plays the ball down the right wing, in search of Prowsey, who is beaten to it by van Dijk. The ball is played back to Adrian, and he's closed by the midfielder, who gets to his man. But the rebound flies wide. Great work rate!

A mistake by Maya Yoshida allows Oxlade-Chamberlain to nick the ball high up the pitch, it's driven to the byline and crossed. But meets the head of James Ward-Prowse, who heads out for a corner. Saints clear.
