Luke Shaw describes being part of Saints’ First Team squad as ‘a dream’ following the youngster’s summer promotion to the senior side.
Shaw, 17, began training with Nigel Adkins’ men in pre-season and was heavily involved in Saints’ warm-up matches ahead of the new campaign.
And the young left-back has been named on the bench in both Saints’ opening Barclays Premier League fixtures.
That meant rubbing shoulders with the likes of Carlos Tévez, Sergio Agüero and David Silva during Saints' season-opener at Manchester City nine days ago – something Shaw still struggles to comprehend.
“It’s just amazing,” Shaw told Saints Player. “I can’t even explain how excited and happy I was to be there (at the the Etihad Stadium).
“I’m still just excited to be on the bench. It’s a great honour.
“I would never have thought I would have got there – especially at Man City – so it’s just a dream, really.”
Whilst Luke is delighted to be amongst the First Team squad, he hopes to secure some on-pitch involvement during tonight’s Capital One Cup fixture at Stevenage.
“Hopefully it’s an opportunity for me to get some game-time tonight. I just can’t wait to play.
“I picked up an injury during pre-season that kept me out of a couple of games, but now I’m back fit and ready to go.
“They [Stevenage] will be ready to go, especially as we’ve just been promoted to the Premier League. They will be looking to stake a claim to show how good they are.”
Saints' Capital One Cup second-round tie takes place at the Lamex Stadium tonight with a 7.45pm kick off. Live commentary will be on Saints Player, and there will be text updates via our official Twitter feed.
