Two-Goal Jay: Bring 'em On!

By SFC Media time Tue 25 Sep Club

Two-goal Jay Rodriguez put Sheffield Wednesday to the sword then issued a message to Saints' Capital One Cup rivals.

The striker grabbed his first and second competitive goals since joining the Club to earn his new team a place in the fourth round.

And, ahead of tomorrow's last-16 draw, Rodriguez says Saints will prove a match for whoever they are matched up against.

"I think we'll take any team that comes," he told Saints Player after tonight's 2-0 win.

"Reaching the last 16 is a great achievement but we still want to go further, so we'll take any team and show them how good we are so we can hopefully get through to the next stage.

"It was really good for us to get through to the next round and put on a good show for the fans – it builds confidence."

This was the former Burnley man's first start since the 2-0 loss to Wigan Athletic exactly a month ago.

So, having capped his appearance with a brace, Rodriguez was understandably delighted with his evening's work:

"To get on the pitch and to get 90 minutes is great for me," he admitted.

"I just want to play, and to get two goals for the team is brilliant. I'm really chuffed.

"It's a nice feeling to have got my first goals, especially at St Mary's because there was a good atmosphere.

"I've got to keep working hard and maintaining things so that I can keep scoring as many goals as I can, and that's what I aim to do."
