Artur Boruc may not have kicked a ball for Saints yet, but he says the two wins secured following his arrival at the club bode well.
The 32 year-old shot stopper completed his free transfer to Southampton last weekend and in that time has taken in a Barclays Premier League victory and watched on again with interest in midweek when Nigel Adkins’ men progressed in the Capital One Cup.
“I like to think that I’ve been a bit of luck for the team so far!” he joked to Saints Player.
“I’m really looking forward to what’s going to happen in the next couple of months.
“It’s a great club here and there’s a lot of young players and good players here to be honest, so I’m looking forward to playing with them.”
Boruc has already trained for the first time with his new teammates, but he admits that having not featured for a club since the end of last season that he is some way short on where he wants to be fitness wise.
“It’s been quite heavy this week to be honest, but I haven’t done much in the past couple of weeks which is why I feel that way and hopefully it’s going to be OK in the next few weeks,” he explained.
“I’ve done a little bit back in Poland and then went to Queens Park Rangers and Everton (on trials), but I’ve still got a little bit more work to do to get in form.”
Artur is fighting for the number one jersey with Kelvin Davis and Paulo Gazzaniga, and believes he will be ready for action when called upon.
“They’re great lads alongside me,” he highlighted. “Obviously Kelvin is a great goalkeeper and a very experienced guy, whilst Paulo is still young but a bright prospect for the future and for the club. I think it’s going to be an advantage for everybody as it’s a great thing for the team to have a couple of good players in each position fighting for one place.”
“If I play then obviously I’ll be judged on my performance,” he adds. “It’s down to the manager to decide if I play so I‘m going to work hard and wait for my chance.”
Should that chance arise this weekend against Everton then Boruc would line up against one of the clubs he trained with during the summer, but he’s not expecting that to work to his advantage on Saturday.
“It might help but this is just one game which is different to training and then playing on the pitch,” Artur affirmed.
“They’re a big club and they had a very good start so it’s going to be a difficult game for us at Southampton. We know they’re in a good way but they lost their last game and hopefully it’s going to stay that way after this weekend.”
