Maya Yoshida says going back to basics helped Saints last week – and now he's targeting continued success in his side's back-to-back home games against Newcastle and Norwich.
The defender had only returned to England 48 hours ahead of last Saturday's game at Queens Park Rangers, having been away with the Japanese national team for their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Oman.
But he managed to put in a composed defensive performance as his team ran out 3-1 victors at Loftus Road to move away from the foot of the table.
And the 24 year-old says the next two fixtures provide a massive opportunity to further improve Saints' league position.
"It’s a big week," says Yoshida in an exclusive interview with tomorrow's edition of the official matchday programme.
"If we win two-or-three games in a row, everything will be good – we’ll get points, but also confidence and happiness.
"Before the QPR game, I felt a little bit tired so I tried to concentrate on playing a simple game.
"For me – and for the team – it didn’t matter how we won the game. We just needed three points, so I was very, very satisfied with the result.
"We are still in a difficult place, but this team should stay in the Premier League. We need to keep getting points."
