Skipper Excited For Overseas Visits

Adam Lallana says he's looking forward to Saints' upcoming trips to Spain and Austria.

The midfielder was one of a number of first-teamers who returned to Staplewood this morning for the official start of pre-season training.

The squad will be joined by the likes of Maya Yoshida, Gastón Ramírez, Nathaniel Clyne and new signing Dejan Lovren over the next few weeks, with a number of players having been given extended summer breaks due to their recent international commitments.

They will then head out to north-eastern Spain for a training camp and games against lower-league sides UE Llagostera and Palamós CF before relocating to Austria for games versus FC Schalke 04 and Beşiktaş.

And Lallana says those trips abroad will be vital for the squad's preparation for the upcoming Barclays Premier League campaign.

"It'll be nice to get away from all of the distractions so we can fully focus on getting fit," the Team Captain told Saints Player.

"We're away for a lot longer than usual, which will be interesting. It's a test in a to be away from your family, but pre-season is very important for us as footballers.

"You want to get the bases there and be right for the whole season so you can last the whole nine months.

"It's nice getting back into the routine and working hard," added Lallana.

"I had a nice break – as I'm sure the rest of the camp did – and rested up and recharged my batteries.

"I remember last year we had a much longer break, and obviously the longer you're off, the more unfit you get.

"I think six weeks is just about right because there's enough time to chill out and go away with your family to recharge your batteries.

"Personally I'm raring to go and, from speaking to the rest of the lads, a lot of them feel the same."
