Mauricio Pochettino was left impressed by the manner in which Southampton swept Fulham aside to record their fourth straight home win.
First-half goals from Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez did the damage as Saints dominated proceedings throughout at St Mary’s.
The hosts racked up 20 shots to Fulham’s two, and recorded 67% of the possession – much to Pochettino’s pleasure.
“My satisfaction goes beyond the three points,” the manager told Saints Player at full-time. “I am really happy about how we actually achieved the victory today.
“I think it’s pretty evident that the team put in an amazing effort in recovering the ball and we pressed very high up the pitch.
“It was about keeping possession during the game – I think we had about 70% - and during those spells that we had possession we were very positive with a positive mentality in how we used the ball.
“I need to congratulate the players because today was excellent. It was a very good complete game by the team and an amazing performance.”
Much to their supporters’ happiness, today’s victory lifted Saints into third spot in the Barclays Premier League table.
However, Pochettino says he is not paying too much attention to the standings at this stage of the season.
“At the moment being third in the league is just a position – it doesn’t really mean anything,” warned the gaffer.
“We have to keep on working and believing as we are doing right now. we know it is a long competition and we have to keep playing as we are.
“But I am really happy for the supporters,” he continued. “They must be really pleased and proud of their team.
“I am also very proud of the players and the way that we are playing.”
