FIXTURES: Anfield first up for Saints

By SFC Media time Wed 18 Jun Club

Southampton will make the trip to Liverpool for the opening day of the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League season.

Saints take on last season’s league runners-up in the curtain-raiser on Saturday 16th August, a game which Anfield new boy Rickie Lambert will doubtlessly be looking forward to.

Dejan Lovren scored the decisive goal in last season’s memorable match there, with Saints one of only two teams to beat the reds on the own patch last term. Liverpool will return to St Mary’s next season on 21st February.

The first match back at St Mary’s for the new season will see Ronald Koeman’s men play West Bromwich Albion on 23rd August on the weekend which precedes the second round of the Capital One Cup.

Saints round off August with a trip to West Ham United, before the first international break of the campaign.

Two of the three promoted teams will visit St Mary’s before December, with QPR here on 27th September, while Leicester City under the guidance of former Southampton boss Nigel Pearson travel down on 8th November.

The festive schedule is typically a busy time, and there’s no exception this year, with Everton due at St Mary’s on 20th December, before Saints make the journey to Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.

Chelsea will visit St Mary’s two days later in the first of a double header of London teams, with Arsenal to follow here on New Year’s Day.

The FA Cup third round will be sandwiched by that game and a journey to Old Trafford on 10th January, with Saints also off to Newcastle in the same month.

Saints’ penultimate home fixture of the season will see Mauricio Pochettino return to St Mary’s with his Tottenham side on 25th April.

Three of the last four matches will be played away from home, with trips to Sunderland and Leicester preceding the final home game of the season against Aston Villa on 16th May. The last match of the season on Sunday 24th May will be played at champions Manchester City.

Don't forget that the only way of guaranteeing a seat for all 19 matches at St Mary's is with a Season Ticket. Tickets are available to buy until 12th July. Click here for more details
