Shane Long has been named in the Republic of Ireland’s final 27-man squad for their upcoming games against Oman and Georgia.

The Saints man was selected in Martin O’Neill’s provisional squad earlier in the week, and retained his place when the confirmed list was released on Saturday evening.

Ireland face Oman in a friendly at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on Wednesday 3rd September, before opening their UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying campaign against Georgia four days later on Sunday 7th September at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi.

Long, who made his first Premier League start for Southampton in yesterday’s 3-1 win over West Ham United, currently has 47 caps for his country. He will return to Hampshire ahead of the home game against Newcastle United in two weeks’ time.
