Saints Under-18s fell to a 2-1 loss at the hands of West Brom over the weekend.
The Baggies took the lead at their training ground on Saturday afternoon when the ball was pulled back to the centre of the box for a close-range finish.
Anthony Limbrick’s side looked to make a swift comeback when a lumped Richard Bakary pass found Carel Kayembe for a blocked shot before the striker backheeled into the path of Dan Demkiv, who scooped a close-range shot over.
Kayembe nearly punished a momentary lapse in the opposing defence when Saints latched onto a short goal-kick, but the forward saw another low shot prevented.
Demkiv enjoyed better fortune later in the half when Josh Sims laid the ball for the wideman to cut inside and fire a 20-yard effort in at the near post to thrust his team back on terms.
Southampton looked to build on the leveller with plenty of pressing, but after Neal Osborne spared Bakary’s blushes with a penalty save, the visitors were stung on the break when a long pass resulted in the 'keeper being rounded and the ball being tucked into an open net.
