Saints boss Ronald Koeman was pleased with the outcome of the Capital One Cup quarter-final draw that took place on Wednesday night.
His side will face League 1 side Sheffield United in the last eight of the competition following Wednesday night’s 3-2 win against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
With his side just three games from a trip to Wembley to compete for the first silverware of the season, Koeman was pleased with the draw, despite it being another away tie.
Speaking to youtube.com/SouthamptonFC, Koeman said: “I think it is a good draw because will all respect to Sheffield United, it is League 1. I think it can be worse, maybe Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool away.
“You have to be lucky about the draw in a cup. Again it is an away game, that’s a pity, but it is a good chance to reach the semi-finals.
“We are doing a good job in the Capital One Cup, we have played three matches away and we have three wins, we have to keep that up in the next game.”
But Koeman insisted his side would not be thinking about a date at Wembley just yet, adding: “It is too early [to start thinking about Wembley], maybe if we reach the semi-final when it is more clear, then it is more realistic.
“Ok, we have good results in the cup and that’s always good for confidence of the players and the team, and we like to continue.”
The tie against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane will be played the week commencing December 15.
