Dušan Tadić believes momentum could be key as his Southampton prepare for the visit of Swansea City on Sunday afternoon.
Ronald Koeman’s Saints have collected 16 points from a possible 18 in their last six Barclays Premier League games – a run of form which has helped them to third place in the table.
But Serbian playmaker Tadić knows that he and his teammates must continue their high level of performance if they are to achieve their goals by the end of the campaign.
“Everything’s gone well until now, but we just need to keep going like this and I hope it’s going to be a successful season,” said the 26 year-old.
“We have a lot of games until the end and we just need to keep going game by game.
“I think they (Swansea City) play really good football, and their way of playing is really good. It’s really hard to play against them and it’s going to be a difficult match, but we believe in our skills and we believe in our strengths and I hope we’re going to win that match.
“It was a really hard match (in the reverse fixture). I think they played better first 40 minutes, then Bony got a red card and then it was a different game. They’ve played really good football for a couple of years already and they can beat everyone, and we need to be ready for them and to try to win the game.”
Southampton will have had eight days to ready themselves by the time former Saint Garry Monk brings his team to the south coast – something which they have rarely been afforded over the last month due to league and cup commitments.
Tadić reckons the work put in during the week will be of vital importance when it comes to prising the three points away from the Jacks at the weekend.
“I think it’s really important to prepare good for the game,” he said. “Everything starts from that first day of the week in training and if you don’t prepare well for a game, my opinion is you cannot play well on a Saturday or Sunday. Because of that, you need to be focussed every day and try to work really hard every day, and then everything will come back.
“I think most important is that we prepare well like a team – that you know before the game what you’re going to do, how we’re going to attack, how we’re going to defend together, and we always get good information about the opponents.
“But most importantly, I think we’re really focussed on us and we just need to do the same thing.”
Key midfielders Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama will be missing from Koeman’s side on Sunday through injury.
Tadić believes there is enough quality in the Saints squad to make up for their absence, though he hopes it’s not long before the influential duo return to the fold.
“It’s really difficult because they are really important for us,” he said.
“They’re for sure one of the best in that position in the Premier League and it’s going to be difficult, but we also have also good players who can change them and I hope that soon they’re going to be fit.”
