James Ward-Prowse felt Southampton produced a professional performance to see off KVV Quick ’20 in a pre-season friendly.

Ronald Koeman’s side hit double figures in a 10-0 win against the Dutch amateur side, with Ward-Prowse getting 70 minutes under his belt.

Having been back with the group for just over a week, the midfielder was pleased to up his game-time once again on Tuesday evening.

“Coming in a couple of weeks after the lads it’s about making sure I look after myself. I’m catching up with them all but I’m really happy to get the minutes under my belt,” he told youtube.com/southamptonfc.

“We’re a very professional bunch and we’ve executed the gameplan and we’re happy with the goals.

“We expected to win the game but for us on a personal level it was all about maintaining our levels. It’s another step in the right direction heading to the first game.

“The manager said before whether you beat them 5-0 or 10-0, it’s important to maintain our standards throughout the 90 minutes.

“The group we’ve got is very professional, even the new players that have come in.

“We know on Thursday it’s a massive game against Feyenoord and the following week against Vitesse. We’re heading towards those two games, tonight was another step for us.”

Ward-Prowse is pleased with how things have gone since he returned to training, believing the squad’s trip to Holland has brought them closer together.

“I feel good. It’s good to be back in amongst it,” Ward-Prowse added. “We have a very exciting couple of games coming up. Everyone is working hard towards the big one against Vitesse.

“These trips are great. It’s great to get everyone together. The singing initiations for those who come to the group for the first time are great. It all helps towards the camaraderie.”
