Pellè: An important time to score

By SFC Media time Sun 30 Aug Club

Graziano Pellè felt his goal just before half time in the win against Norwich City gave everyone the confidence to kick on against the Canaries.

Pellè opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season just before the break, before Dušan Tadić added a brace in the second half to seal a 3-0 win for Ronald Koeman’s side.

After a tough start to the season, and a disappointing result in Denmark in midweek, Pellè felt the goal just before half time was crucial for Saints.

“We know after the red card that we were one player more and we had to prove it,” Pellè told youtube.com/southamptonfc. “All of the team was playing really hard and getting some chances.

“But my goal gave a bit of a release to the team going into half time a goal ahead.

“Already we lost an important game during the week that we shouldn’t and it would’ve been embarrassing to lose again.

“Not because of Norwich because they show they are a good team in the beginning of the season, but we are Southampton. We have quality players and we couldn’t not win this game.

“We did brilliantly and everyone is proud. We showed big personality."

Pellè was pleased with the performance of the whole team at St Mary’s against the Canaries and believes the backing of Ronald Koeman and the club after a difficult week made life easier.

“Everybody believes in our quality, the coach and the club stayed behind us this week. We had to try and find the way to play,” Pellè added.

“If we play football we have many who can change the game in any moment. We have to realise how good we are and always show it on the pitch because talking is not enough.

“Finally we did what everybody expect. We didn’t receive a goal and we scored many. I’m really happy for the performance for the club and the supporters especially."
