Long starts in Ireland's win over Switzerland

By SFC Media time Fri 25 Mar Club

Shane Long started for Republic of Ireland as they beat Switzerland 1-0 in a friendly match at Aviva Stadium, in Dublin.

Long, who was paired in attack with former Reading teammate Kevin Doyle, played 84 minutes before being substituted for James McClean.

Ireland led inside two minutes when Ciaran Clark headed home after Shane Duffy had nodded on a corner.

Long went close to doubling the lead shortly before the interval, but his header from a Seamus Coleman cross came back off the crossbar.

Next up for Long and Ireland is another home friendly, against Slovakia, on Tuesday.
