Forster and Bertrand feature in England win

Fraser Forster and Ryan Bertrand both played as England beat Australia 2-1 at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on Friday night.

The Southampton duo were handed a chance to impress by Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson as he prepares to name his final 23 man squad for the European Championships early next week.

Forster and Bertrand had looked on course for helping the team to a clean sheet in the contest after England established a 2-0 lead in the game, but Eric Dier’s 75th minute own goal which went through Forster’s legs gave the visitors hope.

Goalkeeper Forster was replaced with around four minutes to play as Tom Heaton was given some game time late on, but Bertrand saw out the game to complete the full 90 minutes at left back.

It was an encouraging night for England who took the lead early on through debutant Marcus Rashford after less than three minutes of play.

Rashford would go on to be voted as man-of the-match for the hosts who secured their win through second half substitute Wayne Rooney who crashed home an emphatic finish on 55 minutes.
