Southampton’s new manager, Claude Puel, says he is excited at the prospect of working with the Saints Academy and helping to develop the club’s young players.
In his first interview since arriving at St Mary’s, the Frenchman told youtube.com/southamptonfc that he is keen to work with the youngsters and bring them on.
“I like to improve the young players,” he said. “It's important for the club and important for me at all the clubs I have managed.
“It was important to have good results, but also to permit the club to improve and to know the high level and I think it's a good challenge for the two – for Southampton and me also.”
Puel added: "It is a possibility to work with an excellent academy. It's a better academy in England.
“Many good players come through this academy and it will be important for me to improve these players and to give the club the possibilities to stay at a high level with young players of the club and also, of course, players they come from the outside.”
