Oriol Romeu was happy to end a rewarding week in Holland with a narrow win against FC Groningen at the Euroborg.
Saints won 1-0 thanks to Charlie Austin’s second-half header, as Claude Puel’s men made it three wins from three from their trip to Holland.
With Groningen reduced to ten men, Romeu felt Saints had to work even harder to ensure they ended their trip with a 100 per cent record.
“I’m happy to get another win and happy to finish this training camp with three wins in a row,” Romeu told youtube.com/southamptonfc.
“Now we’re looking forward to the next two friendlies and then starting the league in the best shape and as good as we can be.
“I think it was a good game. The second half was difficult because they had ten men at the back and it was hard to get through the lines.
“We got the goal though, so that was good. I think the sending off changed it completely, because we had much more of the ball and we needed to be very creative.
“They were just waiting for us. When we found the gaps, we tried to create the chances.”
Despite it only being pre-season, Romeu says it’s important Saints start building a winning mentality.
“I think we always want to win, even if it is in pre-season. It’s good to have these victories,” he added.
“It’s a good feeling to have already and we just want to keep going like this ready for the new season.”
