Puel hopes for more improvement against Groningen

Claude Puel is hoping to see Southampton take another step forward when they visit FC Groningen today.

Saints conclude their pre-season tour to Holland with a trip to the Euroborg this afternoon (2.30pm BST), as they look to build on the wins over PEC Zwolle and FC Twente.

Puel says the result is ultimately not important, but he is hoping to see further improvement from the team.

"It's important just for the confidence to win the game," he said. "The more important for me and the team is to put in place what we work on in training and to see all the team and the players improve and progress for the beginning of the season.

"The important day and the important game will be against Watford.

"For the moment, it is just to see the team and the players improve together, with defensive action and also with good control of the game and to be performing on the attack and counter attack."
