Southampton’s Head of Goalkeeping, Dave Watson, says he thankful to Kelvin Davis for his role in helping the coach settle in at the club.
Watson, whose association with the former Saints ‘keeper goes back to his own playing days, said Davis was one of the first people he spoke to about joining the club in 2014.
The two men broke through into professional football at around the same time as each other during the 1990s and Davis is someone Watson holds in high esteem.
“Kelvin was a big help to me when I came in two years ago and obviously really helped create that atmosphere in the goalkeeping department over the last two years,” the Saints coach explained.
The pair have formed a solid understanding in Watson’s relatively short time at Saints so far, and he is delighted to still have the former club captain to call upon in Davis’s new role as Football Development Executive.
“I think it's important that the football club recognise what he's done for them over the last ten years and it's always difficult sometimes maybe to find roles and responsibilities for people and it's too easy to let them drift away,” he highlighted.
“The club have shown Kelvin good commitment by giving him this role and I hope it's something that pushes him on in the future and gives him a chance to do whatever he feels as though he wants to put back into the game – coaching, management or whatever.”
