Sofiane Boufal says Southampton was the best club for him to continue his development as a player after completing a move to St Mary’s.
The Moroccan international joined Saints on a five-year contract from French side Lille, and says a move to St Mary’s was the perfect fit for him.
Despite interest from a number of big clubs, Boufal knew that Saints was where he wanted to be.
“I’m very happy to sign for Southampton and I’m very excited to play for this club now,” Boufal told saintsfc.co.uk.
“Why Southampton? Because Southampton is a very big and good club, a very smart club.
“I think for me it’s the best club, because I see the director, the coach and the fans and they are all excited to work with me.
“For me it was my choice. I took time to choose the best club for me, and I think Southampton is very good for me and my progression.
“I’m very excited to play in St Mary’s Stadium.”
Boufal says Saints’ desire to bring him to St Mary’s was also a big factor. “I have contract with other clubs, but when I listen and I see Southampton – they wanted me.
“I spoke with the coach and the whole club, and for me it’s the club that wanted me not just yesterday, but for four or five months.
“I can see the motivation of the directors and the club to sign me. For me that’s very important.”
