LOAN WATCH: Dramatic day for McCarthy

By SFC Media time Tue 30 Aug Club

Jason McCarthy was part of a dramatic day for Walsall, as they drew 3-3 at home with Bury.

The Saddlers had led 3-0 at half-time, through goals from Kieron Morris, Erhun Oztumer and Simeon Jackson, and appeared to be cruising towards a second win of the League 1 season.

However, Leon Barnett lashed home within two minutes of the restart to give Bury hope, with James Vaughan then quickly making it 3-2.

The comeback was complete in the 66th minute, as McCarthy’s headed clearance was picked up by the unmarked Danny Mayor, who struck the equaliser.

Walsall, who are 16th in the League 1 table, are back in action tonight, as they host Grimsby in the EFL Trophy.

In the Championship, Sam Gallagher started for Blackburn, as they lost 1-0 at home to Fulham.

Gallagher played the first 73 minutes, before being substituted for Anthony Stokes, ahead of Tom Cairney striking a last-gasp goal to give the visitors all three points.

Blackburn, who are bottom of the early Championship standings, are next in action away to QPR after the international break.

Elsewhere, Paulo Gazzaniga was an unused substitute, as Rayo Vallecano drew 0-0 at home with Valladolid in their second game of the Segunda campaign, in Spain.
