Shane Long is hoping to prove a point by progressing past Arsenal in the EFL Cup quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium.
Saints are looking to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1987, against a side that are already familiar from earlier in the campaign.
Long said: “I remember I had a few chances to score, but since I’ve been here we’ve always seemed to do well at the Emirates.
“Hopefully we can reproduce some of the form we’ve shown up their in past seasons and cause a bit of an upset.
“I’m sure they’ll be favourites heading into the game but we’ve got a good squad here that can deal with two games a week and we’ve proven that over the season.
“It’s a good chance for us to push towards getting a medal this season and I think we can go up and prove our point.”
He added: “It’s the year I was born so it’s been a long time! The club has come from strength to strength over the last five or six seasons so there is no reason we can’t be competing for medals this one.
“We’ll take each game as it comes and Arsenal is a tough test but if we come through that then hopefully we can take confidence and kick on.”
