Sam Gallagher helped Blackburn Rovers to a vital three points over Aston Villa on the weekend.
The 21-year-old Saints youngster came off in the closing seconds of the game once victory had already been secured thanks to Danny Graham’s second-half strike.
The 1-0 win at Ewood Park sees Rovers remain in the drop zone on goal difference, but they will maintain their Championship status should they better Nottingham Forest’s final-day result.
Gallagher and his teammates face a trip to Brentford to end the season, whilst Nottingham Forest host Ipswich.
Elsewhere, Jason McCarthy and Walsall suffered defeat at home to Milton Keynes Dons on the final day of the League One season.
McCarthy, who was recently named the Saddlers’ Player of the Season, played 90 minutes as they fell to a 4-1 defeat to finish 14th in the table.
