As Saints look to complete a fourth game of the season unbeaten against Liverpool, Jack Stephens believes the team can take encouragement from their previous displays against the Reds as they head to Anfield on Sunday.

The sides drew 0-0 at St Mary's in the Premier League earlier this season, before Southampton won both legs of the EFL Cup semi-final 1-0.

They will now look to finish off a stunning run against J├╝rgen Klopp's men with another memorable result this weekend.

"We had the great result there in the semi-final, so we will be going there with plenty of confidence that we can get a similar result and we will be doing all we can to do that," said Stephens.

"We drew 0-0 at home in the league against Liverpool, then beat them 1-0 in both legs of the semi-final, so we will go into this game with plenty of confidence and I'm sure we'll be able to get a positive result."

If Saints can do that, it would certainly be a perfect way of bouncing back from the disappointment of last weekend's 0-0 home draw with Hull.

"On Saturday, we were disappointed we didn't get the three points, but looking back, to be fair to Hull, they probably deserved the draw, which was disappointing for us, because we were desperate to win and we want to get as many points as possible," added Stephens. "We'll go into Sunday's game looking to get the three points."
