Southampton Football Club was represented brilliantly at the 2017 Premier League Schools Tournament by Foundry Lane Primary and The Westgate School.
Forty schools from across England and Wales competed in the event, which was this year held at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium.
Each top-flight club had an Under-11s mixed team and an Under-13 girls side representing them in the tournament, following regional heats across the country.
Foundry Lane Primary, which is situated in Southampton, took part in the Under-11s mixed section, with the highlights of their day being a 5-2 victory over Leicester and a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace in the group stage.
Connor Underhill netted four goals in four games and narrowly missed out on being the tournament’s top scorer, while Year 4 pupil Sonny Killinger-Brown enjoyed a memorable day, getting himself on the scoresheet despite being up against many Year 6 youngsters.
The Westgate School, which is based in Winchester, represented Saints in the Under-13s girls category, as they recorded a 1-0 win over Leicester and a 2-0 success against Crystal Palace in the group stage.
Both sides just missed out on progressing from the group stage, but enjoyed a fantastic day,with Manchester City’s representatives winning the Under-11s trophy, while Liverpool's took the Under-13s prize.
