Mauricio Pellegrino was pleased to see Steven Davis chip in with another goal from midfield as Southampton earned a point on the road at Brighton.
The skipper netted an early winner at Crystal Palace last month, and was quick out of the blocks again to catch the Seagulls napping in the seventh minute at the Amex Stadium.
Davis reacted quickest to the rebound after a free kick from the recalled James Ward-Prowse struck the crossbar from 30 yards.
“Davo is a guy who is always ready and focused,” Pellegrino said.
“He has a good reading of this type of situation and I’m happy with him because he can play in different positions and is always helping us.”
Following Sofiane Boufal’s wonder goal against West Brom at St Mary’s, the manager was happy to see another of his midfielders on target in the 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium.
“We need all of them to contribute to the team, and today Prowsey and Davo have helped us to get a point.
“We need everybody. The season is really long and our way is to bring all of them to help the team because you never know when you will need them.
“Most of them deserve to play, which is good news for us.”
