It was ten years ago last April that Southampton legend and 1966 World Cup winner Alan Ball passed away – and his influence is set to be celebrated at St Mary’s in November, with the stadium playing host to the ‘Remembering Bally’ evening.
Ball made 195 appearances and scored 11 goals as a Saint, from 1976 until 1982, before later going on to successfully manage the club for 18 months, beginning in January 1994.
News of his death, in April 2007, at the age of 61, was met with tremendous sadness around the football community, and particularly in Southampton.
On Friday 17th November, ‘Remembering Bally’ will come to St Mary’s, as the life of a true great is celebrated.
An unforgettable evening will look back on his life and career in the company of a whole host of special guests, including Mick Channon, Lawrie McMenemy, Matt Le Tissier, Gordon Watson and many more.
The night will take guests on a magical football journey, with footage from Ball’s career and his last ever public speech, as well as the thoughts of his friends and colleagues including Sir Geoff Hurst and Sir Alex Ferguson.
On display on the night will also be England’s one and only World Cup – the magnificent Jules Rimet Trophy – courtesy of the National Football Museum, while the FA has kindly lent the Emirates FA Cup.
