Mauricio Pellegrino says there is a determination to produce a reaction at Manchester United after the defeat at Tottenham on Boxing Day, and has told his players to make sure they do the simple things well at Old Trafford.
Saints were beaten 5-2 by Spurs when the sides met at Wembley Stadium on Boxing Day, with the trip to United following only a few days later.
While Pellegrino knows that another tough opponent awaits, he is more concerned about what his own side do on Saturday, and wants them to make sure they give José Mourinho's team a difficult 90 minutes.
Asked what he wants to see from his players, the Saints boss said: "Especially to do the simple things well. When you are in this moment and not playing really well you have to do simple things.
"We have to be more solid, be more consistent, and little by little to increase our confidence. I expect us to do the simple things in the right way."
Pellegrino added: "Talking with the players [after Tottenham], we were analysing that the first thing we have to change is ourselves. Don't think too much about the opponent, we have to think about ourselves, us individually, and after as a character, and then translate this to the whole picture.
"Sometimes when you play badly or poorly, like the other day, the opponent always looks better than they are.
"I will repeat that sometimes difficult moments are important for knowing how people will react and how people really are, and this club was made from difficult situations. We are in this situation and hopefully we can bounce back from this moment and be stronger."
