Dušan Tadić hailed the strength in unity on display as his two-goal performance helped Southampton to a vital 2-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Tadić struck the first blow on 25 minutes when an incisive counter-attack saw him keep his cool to slot home Mario Lemina’s pass.

And despite Josh King levelling for the visitors shortly before the break, the Serbian international fired home in the second-half as Saints dug in to register a vital success.

“It’s a little bit of a relief. We are very happy because we showed great character when it was most difficult,” he reflected.

“Finally we have got three points and I need to say thank you to everyone. How our fans supported us, the players and the coaches – we were strong together.

“It’s tough to be strong together in difficult moments but finally we got the benefits of that.”

A special atmosphere helped pull the side through a nervy end, and Tadić was quick to pay tribute to a sold-out St Mary’s.

“It was great. You always remember these kind of moments because they gave us extra energy, they pushed us.

“We also gave them something to make the atmosphere warm and we stayed together.

“You can feel how important this win was for the club and everyone at Southampton.”
