Alex McCarthy believes Southampton can head into their Premier League clash with Everton with confidence after their 2-1 success over AFC Bournemouth.

McCarthy played a key role in earning a crucial three points, making a series of superb saves, as a vociferous St Mary's helped get the team over the line in the latter stages.

Now with Everton next up, the stopper believes Saints can head to Goodison Park with increased belief.

"There's a lot of positives to take from that. The dressing room is buzzing and hopefully that provides a good bit of momentum," said McCarthy.

"We almost forgot what it was like to win in the league, but to get the three points today was massive and it makes the week ahead a lot more enjoyable.

"There's a massive buzz. I thought we played well, and there's a lot of positives to take as we prepare for the Everton game next week."
