Club heroes Le Tissier and Lambert cut the ribbon at the store – which reopened its doors on Monday after its biggest facelift since opening in 2000 – before sitting down to sign shirts, photos and more for a capacity crowd of expectant Saints fans.
The pair’s appearance marked the launch of the new Legends collection - which is now available both online and in store - celebrating some of the greatest players in the club’s history.
The two iconic number sevens are the initial focus of the new range which includes T-shirts, sweaters, mugs, scarves and key-rings, featuring exclusive, hand-drawn artwork of the stars.
“I’m very proud that Southampton have asked me to be involved in this,” said Lambert, speaking at the margins of Monday’s event.
“To be up there with the likes of Matt Le Tissier is incredible. I never thought I’d see the day where I’d be featured in the Saints store like this but it just goes to show that there’s still a lot of love in this city for me and my time here and it’s truly an honour. I love the fans and loved my time here.”
“It’s lovely,” echoed Le Tissier. “I never dreamt that 16 years after I stopped playing that there would still be this kind of legacy in the club shop.
“It’s a very proud day for me and it’s lovely also to be associated with Rickie for what he did himself for this football club.”
