The beginning of the end of the road to Russia kicks off for Saints’ Maya Yoshida and Japan on Tuesday morning.

Maya and the Samurai Blue are set to take on Ghana in Tokyo at 11.25am today, the encounter marking an important step in their preparations for this summer’s finals.

The Japanese will be joined by Colombia, Senegal and Poland in World Cup Group H and will start their campaign against the former at the Mordovia Arena in Saransk on 19 June.

Before that, Yoshida and co. will meet the Black Stars on home turf, then Switzerland and Paraguay in warm-up friendlies in the coming weeks.
