Harrison Reed hit a superb second-half equaliser as Blackburn Rovers made it a winless week for West Bromwich Albion in the Championship on Saturday.
The Saints midfielder curled into the net to level after 71 minutes after a quiet first half which had seen WBA take the lead through Craig Dawson’s header.
The result leaves Reed’s Rovers in 12th place; just three points separate them from the play-offs, the last spot for which is occupied by Derby County.
Winger Josh Sims meanwhile was an 88th-minute substitute as Reading remained the relegation zone on the back of a 2-0 away reverse at the hands of Swansea.
Elsewhere in the Football League, there was a defeat for young playmaker Jake Hesketh whose Burton Albion side were beaten 2-1 by promotion-chasing Peterborough.
Hesketh featured for 83 minutes against the Posh who secured the points thanks to strikes from Joe Ward and Siriki Dembele to move within two points of the lead in League One.
In Spain, Sofiane Boufal’s Celta Vigo romped to a 4-0 win over Eibar. The Moroccan might have given his team the lead within five minutes beating two players before firing at the legs of the goalkeeper from close range. It mattered little as a hat-trick from Iago Aspas sealed the deal for the home side.
Jordy Clasie’s Feyenoord received a damaging blow from Ajax in the Eredivisie, losing 3-0 in Amsterdam. Former Saint Dušan Tadić netted the third for Ajax as they kept pace with PSV who have won all 10 of their opening fixtures.
