Hughes on international break

Mark Hughes feels being denied victory in the home meeting with Watford in the Premier League will only serve provide ammunition for his side after the international break.

With Saints one goal to the good against Watford, Charlie Austin’s goal was wrongly ruled out for offside, with the referee believing that it had hit Maya Yoshida on its way to goal.

That left things more finely poised and the Hornets stung the hosts late on when Jose Holebas’s deflected effort found its way into the corner on 82 minutes.

“We’ll have about ten guys left behind and it’s a good opportunity to get some good work into them. Hopefully everybody who is away will come back fit and well,” Hughes reflected.

“I sense that we can’t wait for the Fulham game because it’s a game that we’ve always targeted because it’s a good opportunity for us to get maximum points and that doesn’t change.

“Given the events of Saturday, I think we’ll be even more determined.”
