Oriol Romeu insists Southampton are in confident mood ahead of the visit of Premier League champions Manchester City to St Mary’s tomorrow.

After securing back-to-back wins in the top flight for the first time since April 2017, Saints were dealt a setback in falling to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of West Ham on Thursday night.

But City have lost three of their last four in the league and shown signs of vulnerability over the festive season.

“It’s a tough test, but it’s nice to play against them,” Romeu said, speaking after the Hammers clash. “We are still feeling positive, with the energy to go and get something from the game.

“We’ll go for it and we definitely still believe in ourselves. We feel more optimistic, we know our roles and we are working in the same direction.

“Today (against West Ham) we’ve seen we’re not perfect. We thought with the last two games we were going to win every single match – that’s the feeling we had around us.

“Obviously, we didn’t come away with that feeling, but it’s going to be an amazing match.

“Improving those details we did wrongly, I think we’re going to be able to get something from it.”
