The event, which is one of 14 of its kind across Great Britain and aims to build excitement in the run-up to the 2019 UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire, will start and finish at St Mary’s Stadium on the day, which begins at 11am.

All those who sign up for the free event before Friday 19 July will be entered into a prize draw to win one pair of tickets to Saints’ home Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Saturday 17th August (3pm).

Greg Baker, Head of Saints Foundation of Community Partnerships, said: “Southampton Football Club is delighted to be hosting the start and finish of this year’s HSBC UK Let’s Ride Southampton, which promises to be a fantastic event for thousands of people from across our local community.

“We are looking forward to seeing cyclists, both young and old, riding alongside the hallowed turf as part of the route, and also taking part in a variety of activities in the event village at St Mary’s Stadium. We encourage everyone to get involved in what will undoubtedly be a memorable occasion for all of the family.”

Julie Harrington, chief executive of British Cycling, added: “Southampton played host to a fantastic event last year, and we’ve worked hard - alongside Southampton City Council and local businesses and attractions - to ensure that HSBC UK Let’s Ride Southampton will again be a truly enjoyable, free and family-friendly day out which showcases the best of the city and the real benefits of cycling.”

Councillor Jacqui Rayment, Cabinet Member for Place and Transport, Deputy Leader, said: “HSBC UK Let’s Ride Southampton is an important element in making Southampton a true cycling city, supporting the investment in cycling infrastructure across the Southampton Cycle Network. With closed off roads, it will encourage regular cyclists, families and those who cycle less often to take part in what is a fantastic, free family day out.”
