Saints suffer rare setback on the road

Southampton’s run of four straight away victories came to an end on Saturday in a 2-1 defeat on the club’s first visit to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

After wins at Brighton, Fulham, Sheffield United and Portsmouth – all achieved without conceding a goal – the trip to Spurs proved a bridge too far.

Saints played for an hour against ten men after the dismissal of Serge Aurier, with Danny Ings scoring his third goal in two games, but the depleted Champions League finalists held on.

Chelsea tickets on general sale

Next up, Saints play host to Chelsea at St Mary’s in the Premier League on Sunday 6th October, 2pm BST.

Kids for a quid against Leicester

The visit of Leicester City to St Mary’s on Friday 25th October (kick-off 8pm BST) is available for just £1 for Junior Members buying in the family area.

Saints to face Carabao Cup holders

Following the memorable 4-0 victory at Portsmouth in last week’s south coast derby, Saints now face a trip to Man City in the fourth round.

City have won the competition for the last two years, so the draw could hardly be tougher for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team.

The tie has been confirmed for Tuesday 29th October (kick-off 7.45pm BST), just four days before Saints return to the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League. 

Under-23s win at Wolves

Radhi Jaïdi’s Under-23s got the weekend off to a positive start with a 2-1 win at Wolves, who were promoted with them from Premier League 2 Division Two last season.

Wolves won the league and Saints won the play-offs, so this was a pleasing result for the youngsters, with Christian Norton and Aaron O’Driscoll the men on the scoresheet.

Next up is a trip to League Two Walsall in the Leasing.com Trophy on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7pm BST).

Cup defeat for Under-18s

Saints Under-18s endured a tough start to this season’s Under-18 Premier League Cup with a 4-1 loss at Man City.

Sam Bellis was on target with a first-half equaliser, but the competition holders proved too strong after the break.

Paul Hardyman’s side are on the road again this weekend, returning to league action at Norwich on Saturday (kick-off 11am BST).

Women’s game rained off

Southampton FC Women were not given the chance to continue their impressive start to the new season after their home clash with Larkhall Athletic was postponed.

AFC Totton’s Snows Stadium fell victim to a waterlogged pitch, as Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s team had hoped to extend their unbeaten campaign to date.

This week will see Saints in Women’s FA Cup qualifying action at home to Buckland on Sunday, kicking off at 2pm BST.

N’Lundulu seals two-year extension

Young striker Dan N’Lundulu has put pen to paper on a new contract, tying him to the club until 2022.

The 20-year-old has been in fine goalscoring form for the Under-23s, and was named in the first-team squad for the Premier League game against Manchester United at the end of August.

“Being around the first-team just gives you motivation,” he said. “You can feel it in the changing rooms, on the bench and warming up thinking you might come on – it’s pure motivation.”
