Southampton’s youngsters travel to Walsall tomorrow night, for their second group stage game in this year’s Leasing.com Trophy.
Their opener, a 3-2 defeat to Forest Green Rovers, was a tight affair, but one that encouraged coach Radhi Jaïdi, who was pleased with the way his young side battled against senior opposition.
League Two outfit Walsall are mid-table in the fourth division, and enter the tie in good form, having won their last three, while Saints were 2-1 victors over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their most recent outing.
"We've talked about the EFL Trophy games and how important they are in terms of development," Jaïdi began.
"They are a good challenge for our boys, playing against senior players and Football League teams.
"It will hopefully be the same kind of performance as we gave against Wolves last week.
"It’s a quick turnover, we don’t have a lot of time to prepare. We will reflect, ensure everyone knows their roles, and try to produce some quality."
