Will Smallbone was left thankful to manager Ralph Hasenhüttl after marking his senior debut with a goal in the Emirates FA Cup win over Huddersfield on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder, who’s been at the club since the age of eight, opened the scoring in the 47th minute before fellow youngster Will Vokins ensured progression late on.

Reflecting on a debut to remember, Smallbone thanked his manager.

“You see at other clubs that players don’t always get the chance, but we know here that we get a chance.

“Last year with Yan [Valery] and Michael [Obafemi], the chance is there for you and thankfully with this manager, he has given us our chance and hopefully we’ve taken it.

“Hopefully we get a good draw in the next round and we’ll try and push on. The next thing for me is to hopefully make my Premier League debut.”
