Southampton defender Maya Yoshida has completed a deadline-day loan move to Sampdoria.

The centre-back has moved to Italy for the remainder of the season, ahead of his St Mary’s contract expiring in the summer.

Sampdoria, where former Saints striker Manolo Gabbiadini plays, are currently 16th in the Serie A table, and Yoshida will now look to help them secure their top-flight status.

The Japan international leaves Southampton after a memorable seven-and-a-half seasons with the club, joining shortly after the team’s return to the Premier League and going on to make 194 appearances, while scoring nine goals.

Everyone at Southampton would like to thank Maya for his years of dedicated service and we wish him every success in the coming months and beyond.

You will always be welcome back at St Mary's, Maya.
