Southampton staff have been busy this week across the club supporting Safer Internet day, which was officially on Tuesday 11th February.

Both Southampton Football Club and Saints Foundation have pledged support for this year’s awareness campaign.

Our Under-15, Under-16 and Under-18 age groups took part in online safety training, highlighting how important it is to be protected online, and begin to understand the challenges of managing social media as a professional athlete.

Our Under-10 age group got creative, designing posters and chatting about privacy settings and the dangers of putting too much personal information online.

The theme of this year’s Safer Internet campaign was ‘Free to Be’, promoting being yourself online and how it means different things to different people.

We also captured the thoughts of our players and coaches as part of our Female Football Festival. Southampton FC Women captain and vice captain, Shelly Provan and Shannon Sievwright, helped to give their thoughts on what it meant to them to be 'free' online.

Kim Mundy, Safeguarding Manager said: "Our online presence is a key part of society and can be an amazing way for our young people to connect with the world, learn and share ideas.

it is great to see so much engagement for safer internet day from all areas of the club.

"But it is important that we balance this with education and awareness around how to stay safe online and what things can be done to reduce some of those risks.

"It has been great to see so much engagement for Safer Internet day from all areas of the club."
