Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl believes new signing Ibrahima Diallo will have benefited from a full week on the training pitch at Staplewood Campus, although he has indicated the midfielder may still need to be patient while he waits for his first start.

Diallo signed from Brest earlier in the month, but immediately departed for international duty with the France Under-21 team, before returning shortly before last weekend's 3-3 draw at Chelsea.

The central midfielder made a late appearance at Stamford Bridge, coming on as a substitute shortly before Jannik Vestergaard netted a dramatic late equaliser, and has since been training with his new teammates as they prepare for Sunday's visit of Everton.

"It was important for him to have a good first appearance, taking the point and coming into the team that makes the equaliser, it's good for him," said Hasenhüttl.

"Now, this week, we trained hard with him and showed him a few things about what is important for him.

"He is a smart guy, and he must still wait for getting the first chance maybe for playing from the beginning, but it sometimes comes quicker than you think and then you must be fit."
