Tizzard looking for prolonged cup run

By SFC Media time Sat 05 Dec Saints vs Coventry

Will Tizzard is hoping Southampton Under-18s can enjoy a successful run in the FA Youth Cup this season.

Saints’ youngsters comfortably saw off Coventry City 3-1 at St Mary’s to progress into the fourth round, courtesy of strikes from Kazeem Olaigbe, Sam Bellis and Kegs Chauke.

Now looking to go one step further than last season’s cup campaign in the next round, the under-18s captain is looking forward to the challenge.

“We’ve got league games before Christmas so we have to focus on that, but whoever we get we’ll go and play and hopefully beat.

“In the past few years we’ve underperformed, so this year we can go and get a run. We’ll take every game as it comes and hopefully put a run together.

“We’ve got a really good group of lads and good players. Plus we all play the same way now from the first team down to the under-18s, we all play the same way.

“It was a really good experience and we played well, and I thought we controlled the game well.

“We’ve conceded too many soft goals recently, so to keep a clean sheet was really pleasing.”
