Defender Yan Valery isn't ready to dwell on Southampton's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the Premier League.

Saints took the lead inside the opening five minutes courtesy of Stuart Armstrong’s strike, only for the Gunners to hit back with goals of their own through Nicolas Pépé, Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette.

With the hosts depleted due to injury and suspension, defender Valery was left to reflect on a difficult return to the starting eleven in the league.

“We started the game right and scored the first goal, but after that we made a few mistakes and I think all the goals came from our mistakes.

“Now we need to just learn from it and move on. In the second half we started good as well but when they scored the third one, we just gave up.

“For the first goal, I think I could’ve come back quicker, but I have to learn from it. It was my first start of the season and it’s always hard to come back from a long time, but I’m not trying to use excuses, I should’ve done better and will learn from it and move on.

“Now we need to be ready for Saturday and go again. We have done everything right in the first half of the season, so I don’t know why it wouldn’t happen again in the second half.
