Saints youngsters play out friendly draw with Bournemouth

Southampton's youngsters held an experienced AFC Bournemouth XI at Staplewood Campus in a friendly match this morning.

Luke Pearce gave Saints the lead after just five minutes with a close-range finish under Cherries keeper Cameron Plain.

The hosts did well to hold off the resulting pressure from the Bournemouth side, which featured 24-year-old Lewis Cook as continued on the injury recovery trail.

Tarik Gidaree and Ben Greenwood those who went closest for the visitors, Saints' Ollie Wright doing well to tip over the former's effort on 28 minutes.

Ryan Finnigan continued his recovery from injury.

Saints were able to give minutes to young midfielder Ryan Finnigan amongst others, as recovers from a spell on the sidelines.

It took until the 73rd minute for Bournemouth to grab an equaliser, Greenwood again involved firing in a cross before Euan Pollock levelled the scores from the bench.

Saints starting XI: Wright, Otseh-Taiwo, Carson, Rodriguez, Pambou, Burnett, Smith, Finnigan, Pearce, Davey, Trialist.

Saints subs: Lillienberg, Chavez-Munoz, Hewlett, Payne, Tshaka, Doyle, Ballard.

Bournemouth starting XI: Plain, Nippard, Greenwood, Cook, Seddon, Camp, Gidaree, Wadham, Moriah-Welsh, Roberts, Saydee.

Bournemouth subs: Boutin, Terrell, Dawes, Okoh, Pollock.
