Ibrahima Diallo wants to see Southampton take the positives from a spirited performance against Chelsea into this weekend’s Premier League clash with Watford.

The Frenchman made his third consecutive start in the Carabao Cup tie at Stamford Bridge in which Saints performed admirably, but ultimately bowed out 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.

Next up is a return to league action at the home of the Hornets, currently 14th in the table and two points better off than Saints.

“We’re disappointed, of course, but we did a big game,” he said. “That’s football.

“It’s a big team and we know against this team it’s tough to win, but we did a good game.

“It was a big game with a good performance from all the players. Another really good performance, but it’s not the win.

“It was not enough, and now we must focus on the next game.

“We have to build on this. I think the next game will be good also. It’s another big game against a different team, but we have to be ready.”
