Following an impressive start to 2022, James Ward-Prowse has been shortlisted for Premier League Player of the Month for January.

The Saints captain hasn’t missed a beat since the turn of the year and in January’s three league outings, helped earn four points with a goal and an assist.

Ward-Prowse’s strike at Wolves was no ordinary goal either, finding the top corner from 34 yards out with a stunning effort to take his tally to 12 direct free-kick goals in the Premier League.

The midfielder was following up on another contribution from a set-piece earlier in the week, when his whipped-in corner was headed home by Jan Bednarek in the comprehensive 4-1 win over Brentford at St Mary’s.

Concluding an impressive month, Ward-Prowse was tireless in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend, ending the reigning champions’ winning streak and moving Saints up to 12th in the table.

Also shortlisted are Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Kevin De Bruyne (Man City), David De Gea (Man United), Jack Harrison (Leeds) and João Moutinho (Wolves).
